Service: Solar PV, battery storage

Date: 2020

Challenge

The house already had a heat pump for heating and cooling, and the owner was keen to reduce their costs further and have greater energy independence.

Solution

Consultation

At the survey, we assessed the roof and the electrical system. A structural survey was completed and we analysed the energy bills to understand energy consumption.

Detailed design

  • We provided detailed financial modeling of the most efficient solution
  • A Tesla battery was specified that can provide backup power within a millisecond
  • The electrical design included G99 connection to the grid
  • Specialist slate fixings were specified that are strong and long-lasting.
  • Solaredge inverters and optimiser were used along with an energy monitor that monitors all the consumption and production figures.

Installation

Our team fitted this system during a heatwave on the sunny Isle of Wight.  Thankfully, we had a good supply of ice creams from the lovely customers. Working during the pandemic, we were extra vigilant and had very strict H&S measures in place.

Technologies

Inverters: Solar Edge

Panels: LG

Battery Tesla Powerwall

Results

An excellent looking system that is outperforming the predictions.  The battery allows the house to consume 69% of the solar energy and over half the house’s electricity comes from solar.  During the summer months, long periods of time go by when no electricity is imported.
